The subject is an introduction to the nature, purposes and practice of educational research. Topics include the nature of educational reseach and its relationship with educational policy and practice; a review of major approaches to educational research and their application to educational problems; basic research methods for educational inquiry; classroom research; research ethics; writing research proposals.

Learning Objectives:

  1. a critical understanding of the nature and purposes of major approaches to educational research;
  2. an understanding of the potential applications of these approaches to education problems;
  3. a familiarity with basic research methods and ethics in educational inquiry;
  4. the ability to plan a research project.

Assessment by essay (40%); research proposal or project (60%).
