Early Childhood Care and Education Services

Available as a core subject for third year Early Childhood Education students. Primary Education students may enrol in this subject as an elective.

This subject focuses on the range of care and education services available in Australia for young children. It examines the philosophical, historical, political, social and economic factors that have impacted on the evolution and future directions of children’s services. It also addresses topics of professional significance for the early childhood educator.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understand the social and historical background to current early childhood programs as they operate in Australia;
  2. identify the broad range of early childhood care and education services in Australia;
  3. critically examine professional issues relating to the planning and implementation of early childhood education.

Assessment by essay (30%); seminar presentation (30%); seminar paper (30%).
