The theoretical development of the macro-economy up to the IS-LM model. In particular the microeconomic foundations of aggregate demand, monetary and fiscal policy in a full employment economy and the Australian institutional framework with particular reference to the labour market and unemployment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to present the basics of intermediate macroeconomic theory, introducing students to economic model building and algebraic and computer modelling.

Assessment by written assignment, mid-term test, seminar presentation (30%); end-of-semester written examination (70%).
