Available to Computer Science/Information Technology postgraduate students. Permission by the Head of School is also required.
This subject is the first half of a minor project in Computer Science/Information Technology to be carried out under the supervision of one or more staff members. This first half of the project will require a survey of relevant literature, an analysis of the problem to be solved and a high level design feasibility analysis. An account of the work done must be submitted as an interim project report and presented as a seminar.
Learning Objectives:
- apply principles and methods of scientific thinking to a critical review and assessment of relevant literature;
- formulate a problem and relate it to the literature review of (1);
- perform high level design feasibility analysis;
- present the results of (1) and (2) in a written form and in a seminar.
Students should be able to demonstrate the required capabilities at a level appropriate for postgraduate studies, including advanced analysis, design and reporting skills.
Assessment in this subject involves on-course assessment including presentations, assignments and submissions of project reports. Full details of the assessment are handed out to students in the first week of the semester and will be published on the Web.
