The study of the methodology of scientific research and the design, formulation and implementation of a research project. Topics covered will include perspectives for development of knowledge; project planning and design; writing a research proposal and research report; research methodologies.

Learning Objectives:

  1. describe different philosophical perspectives for the development of scientific knowledge;
  2. describe the nature of research and the research process;
  3. develop researchable questions;
  4. choose between alternative research methods for a given research project;
  5. write a research proposal;
  6. evaluate and criticise research within and outside the student’s discipline.

Assessment by seminar questions (20%); article review (10%); oral and written presentation of research proposal (70%).
