The portrayal of Australia outside its cities, by a study of the land and its inhabitants as shown in feature films made about Australia, both by Australians and others.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to demonstrate and give experience in a thematic study of an aspect of cinema;
  2. to gain insights into the cinema’s reflecting and shaping aspects of the Australian identity;
  3. to develop an awareness of filmic techniques for transmitting meaning.

Assessment by four minor assignments (40%); class participation (20%); major assignment (40%).
