Indigenous Heritage Training

40 hours lectures, 20 hours workshops, 20 other contact hours. Semester 1 and 2. Flexible delivery (off-campus).

Available to organisations on a contract basis by arrangement with the School of Anthropology, Archaeology and Sociology, for Certificate of Social Sciences (Cultural Heritage Studies) students.

This subject offers an overview of the process of heritage management. It focuses on a specific heritage place and students are involved in the production of a plan of management for this place. Students work with traditional owners and others who have interests in the place to produce the plan. This subject is taught off-campus in association with the Australian Heritage Commission. Additional fees are required to cover the cost of accommodation, food, transport, reference materials and other costs.

Learning Objectives:

  1. introduce students to the principles and processes of heritage management;
  2. give students the experience of working in a team situation involving heritage managers, traditional owners and other stakeholders;
  3. gain experience in developing plans of management for heritage places.

Assessment by exercises undertaken during the workshop (50%); written assignments (50%).
