This subject involves the preparation of a review of literature pertinent to the candidate’s project (ZL5053 or ZL5055). Before commencing work on a literature review, candidates should therefore decide on the topic and scope of their project. This should be done in discussion with the course coordinator and an appropriate supervisor. The literature review should be a critical appraisal of the objectives, techniques and outcomes of previous research relating to the topic. Candidates will also write a formal research proposal for their project. The proposal should resemble a standard application for research funding and outline the aims and significance of the research, research plan, timetable, budget and justification of the budget.

Learning Objectives:

  1. preparation of a critical literature review;
  2. identification of important research issues;
  3. development of writing skills, especially those required for a research proposal.

Assessment based on assignments.
