Ecology for Engineers

Prerequisites: 12 units of level 1 Engineering subjects

Available to level 2 engineering students.

Introductory ecology including the quantitative methods used to obtain and analyse ecological data. Structure and dynamics of populations, communities and ecosystems. Attendance at selected lectures in Biological Sciences will be required.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understanding of basic ecological principles, applied to populations, communities and ecosystems;
  2. understanding of environmental factors affecting ecological systems;
  3. knowledge of impacts of human activities on ecological systems.

Assessment by a three-hour examination; performance in tutorials; assignments.
