Professional Development for Social Work Practice

Prerequisites: WS4510

52 hours workshops or the equivalent in mixed mode on-campus delivery. Second semester.

Available to BSW students.

Staff: Mr L Bainbridge (Townsville campus); Ms G Galloway (Cairns campus).

This subject requires the student to be involved actively in seminar presentation and participation regarding issues which students, both group and individuals, have decided are important for their on-going development and practice. To consider the transition of roles from social work students to professional practitioners and to reflect on the future.

To learn about employment opportunities and the best way to go about finding work most appropriate to each student both as a graduate and as a person.

Learning Objectives:

  1. be equipped to begin the final fieldwork placement prior to entry into professional practice;
  2. a comprehensive understanding of the major issues and dilemmas facing the social work profession;
  3. a comprehensive view and understanding of the code of ethics for the profession and its application.

Assessment by workshop (40%); written assignment (40%); participation (20%).
