Socio-environmentalism and Community Work

The subject will draw on socio-environmentalism as a framework for critiquing community work practice. It will consider the evolution of the relationship between people and nature, explore the various explanations for these and the current socio-environmental problems faced by the community. Students will then examine the implications of such an approach for working in the field of social development.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop a broad understanding of the relationship between people and nature;
  2. to develop a critical understanding of a socio-environmental approach to community work;
  3. be inspired to promote co-operation and social justice in human relations, along with respect for other living and non-living things.

Assessment by participation (15%); student developed assessment (85%).
