39 hours practicals. First semester.
Available to all students except BVA students whose major area of study is in painting. This is also a level 2 Bachelor of Education subject for intending early childhood/primary/secondary teachers undertaking a major/sub-major in art.

This subject is specifically designed for students wishing to study painting techniques and approaches and to develop skills in using a range of painting media. Students studying art theory or education will find this subject useful.
Learning Objectives:
- to acquire knowledge about pigment properties;
- to demonstrate understanding of conventional approaches to painting;
- to gain practical experience in using different painting techniques;
- to explore a wide range of paint mediums;
- to develop skills in handling paint.
Assessment by four prescribed folios of paintings (25% each). An attendance of 80% of classes will be required to pass this subject (unless prior arrangement has been made in writing signed by the lecturer in charge, or extenuating circumstances can be established).
