Traditional and contemporary approaches to Fine Art presentation techniques will be explored. The link between presentation techniques and the meaning of the work will be discussed and professional standards of presentation will be demonstrated.

Students will undertake workshops in: safety awareness; the construction of painting stretchers and the framing of canvasses; the construction of plinths and perspex boxes for the display of 3D work; the construction of folders and boxes for the storage and/or display of works on paper and the framing of works under perspex (including matt cutting), as well as alternative presentation techniques for works on paper.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to provide students with an awareness of the means of creating the most contemporary methods of display;
  2. to gain a critical edge to thinking about the installation of art work during the creative process, including an awareness of the requirements for final display;
  3. to gain knowledge for accessing the professional workshops and technical tools to aid in the presentation and installation of art work in traditional and contemporary spaces.

This is an ungraded subject. Each of the set projects must be completed to a satisfactory standard to gain a Satisfactory (“S”) grade.
