Diagnostic Pathology

Prerequisites: TV5010

6 hours pathology case reviews each week. Full year.

Available to graduate students with a degree in Veterinary Science (other appropriately trained graduates may enrol at the discretion of the Director of the Australian Institute of Tropical Veterinary and Animal Science).

Staff: Professor P Summers.

Under the direction of the staff member responsible, students will handle and/or review material submitted to the pathology section for diagnosis.

Learning Objectives:

  1. conduct postmortem examinations on domestic animals, wildlife, laboratory animals, interpret major gross and microscopic changes and prepare reports on them;
  2. be familiar with routine techniques and procedures used in diagnostic pathology such as “trimming in” of tissues and uses of special stains.

Continuing assessment on case-by-case basis of material handled by the student.
