Conference and Events Management

Prerequisites: BU2010 or TO2011 or TO2012 or TO2015

26 lectures, 12 hours practicals. Second semester.

This subject will be approached using an innovative concept designed to provide students with direct industry links. These links will be provided through the organisation of a “JCU Tourism Industry Forum”. The aims of this industry Form will be to provide a better understanding of the information that the tourism industry needs and wants in order to address the major issues confronting the various sectors of the tourism industry. By organising this ‘industry Forum’ students will be able to make a connection to the tourism industry which may provide them with valuable information on tourism for their research and future directions for employment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to investigate updated news and issues from front line tourism industry;
  2. to provide students with an insight into the needs and the value of research and to initiate the development of a research plan;
  3. to understand the elements involved in the planning of a conference;
  4. to examine case studies of specific tourism industry events.
