Introduction to Tourism

The subject introduces the demand, distribution, delivery and development aspects of tourism.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to define the term tourism and its related forms;
  2. to examine the growth in tourism and traveller numbers, why people are motivated to travel and who these people are;
  3. to identify how tourism services are distributed within the tourism system;
  4. to understand who provides the tourism services and how they are delivered;
  5. to identify who shapes tourism policies and plans and the educational and training frameworks currently in place.
