Respiratory Medicine of Neonates

Available to students enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma of Neonatology.

Review of normal and abnormal development of the lung, the physiology and pathology of common lung problems and their modern management. This subject will complement the practical skills gained whilst students are working in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop a basic understanding of pulmonary physiology and pathology relevant to the neonate;
  2. to acquire the skills to recognise and investigate the common problems of neonatal pulmonary function;
  3. to acquire the theoretical skills to manage these problems in the context of a modern Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Assessment by assignments (70%); final examination (30%).
