This subject introduces students to the major issues that adversely affect the environment and human health. The modules include: risk assessment, toxicology, air pollution, water quality, sanitation, food safety, appropriate housing design, energy, pet and pest management, vector control, pesticides, climate change, disaster management and occupational health and safety. The 4-day residential includes team project exercises aimed at developing management and planning ability.
Learning Objectives:
- understand the extent of health problems that relate to environmental issues;
- recognise hazardous situations that require improvement;
- learn what steps are being taken and what resources are available;
- understand the interactions between individuals and communities and their responsibilities to each other;
- understand the extent of environmental health issues relating to towns, cities and other rural, urban and semi-urban areas.
