Contact hours will vary according to the module chosen up to a maximum of 120 hours workshops. First semester.
Available to level 1 BT students only.
Students enrolling in this subject will undertake modules in either Acting or Production.
Acting
Basic training The Actors Inner Technique. Key competencies in the development of inner technique towards performance: relaxation, attention, concentration, magic if, sense memory, memory of physical action, fantasy and imagination.
Production
Technical production students explore all facets of stage lighting for theatre. Areas of study include: types of lanterns and their uses, patching systems, control systems, rigging, focussing and the aesthetics of colour, shadow and lamp usage for theatrical effect.

- to enable students to identify, employ and obtain mastery of fundamental skills necessary for professional theatre.
Assessment by:
Acting
Participation in training process and development in the key areas of inner technique. This comprises six practical exercises at 15%. In addition students will submit a creative journal that is worth 10%.
Production
Preparation and participation in practicals (25%); practical skills tests as related to various stages of the lighting process (75%).
