Effective Speaking

The subject offers the practical training in content choice/management and in vocal techniques essential to develop effective speech in contexts such as discussions, debate, meetings, public presentations, seminar papers, radio and television appearances.

Learning Objectives:

  1. understand the reciprocal roles of listener and speaker;
  2. analyse the voice and its role in communication;
  3. develop facility and confidence in speaking for a range of communicative purposes;
  4. develop skills in oral interpretation;
  5. apply in practice the interaction between purpose, audience and context.

Assessment by final presentation (20%); vocal journal (15%); practical tasks (65%).
