Social Inquiry Analysis

Prerequisites: BH2004 or SS2004

26 lectures, 24 hours practicals or the equivalent in mixed mode on-campus delivery. Second semester.

Introduction to research designs relevant to human services and social policy research; and qualitative and quantitative methods of information analysis.

Learning Objectives:

Students should make considerable progress towards gaining:

  1. understanding of a number of research designs;
  2. ability to develop an applied social research investigation;
  3. skills in reporting research;
  4. knowledge of which research designs to use given research aims and parameters;
  5. ability to critically assess and consume research studies and proposals;
  6. skills in analysing qualitative and quantitative information.

Assessment by research report (60%); tests (40%).
