Advanced Forensic Psychology

39 hours workshops. Second semester intensive block mode.

Available to MPsych students or other suitably qualified persons with the permission of the course coordinator.

This subject provides students with an advanced training in the application of specialist knowledge of forensic psychology in a range of settings. The settings include, but are not restricted to, selected criminal justice institutions including correctional facilities, courts, watch houses and mental health facilities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. provide advanced training in the application of specialist forensic psychology in a variety of criminal justice settings;
  2. provide an in-depth appreciation of the biopsychosocial interactions which result in criminogenic personalities, behaviours and environments;
  3. provide advanced insights into the tools and techniques used by the forensic psychologist whilst working within the various areas of the sub-discipline;
  4. ensure students have a detailed professional knowledge of the ethical issues that arise when working in forensic psychology.

Assessment by written review (2,000 words) on theoretical perspectives (40%); case review (1,500 words) (40%); examination (20%).
