Practicum 1

Prerequisites: PY5001 PY5002 PY5003

300 hours supervised practice. Full year.

Available to MPsych or DPsych students.

Staff: Assoc. Professor A Ralph and other clinical staff.

This subject takes the form of a practical placement in the University Psychology Clinic. Students will work in the clinic under the close supervision of appropriate staff. There will also be weekly 1.5 hour seminars: these will consist of discussions on specific issues relevant to the professional psychologist (e.g. ethics, legal issues, quality assurance etc) and case presentations.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to develop clinical skills under the guidance of a supervisor;
  2. to act in a professional manner, meet the requirements of a work contract and associated responsibilities;
  3. to develop a beginning level of independence and responsibility as a practising clinical and health psychologist.

Assessment by seminar participation and case presentations (20%); work performance in the clinic (80%).
