Theoretical Issues and Case Management in Counselling

39 hours workshops. Second semester. Intensive block mode.

Available to MPsych or DPsych students or other suitably qualified persons with the permission of the course coordinator.

This subject takes an evidence based approach to the major theoretical perspectives in counselling, including CBT, person centered, behaviourist, narrative and eclectic approaches. Strategies and models of case management are also explored.

Learning Objectives:

  1. attain evaluative/critical understanding of the major counselling theories and how these translate into the counselling context;
  2. attain practical skills in the management of cases within professional ethics.

Assessment by theoretical written assignment (60%); case management presentation and written paper (40%).
