Advanced Topics in Psychology

Available to psychology students who have completed three years of study and who have been accepted into level 4 of the psychology program.

This subject encompasses six modules covering advanced psychology topics. Students must take all six modules offered, along with PY4101 to complete their level 4 studies in psychology. Topics offered will vary from year to year, depending on the specialised interests and competencies of staff and their availability. A module on ethics and professional practice will be available every year. 24 hours of additional seminar attendance is required.
Learning Objectives:
- have a good understanding of professional practice and ethical issues in psychology;
- have a good understanding of critical issues and concerns with respect to societal and other profession views of the discipline and practice of psychology;
- have a good understanding of the nature and scope of cross-cultural psychology and the culture-specific limitations of Western psychology as discipline and practice;
- have a good understanding of a diverse spectrum of sophisticated data analytic procedures and approaches;
- have a good, in-depth, understanding of a number of current research areas within psychology.
Assessment by examination, presentation and/or written assignment.
