Townsville

Prerequisites: PT3010
Inadmissable Subject Combination: VA3190

26 tutorials, 52 hours practicals. Second semester.

Available to Bachelor of Photography students.

By means of a written contract negotiated with the subject coordinator, students enrolling in this subject will produce a portfolio of work to near professional standard in an area of photography of their choice. A program of work may be completed in any of the following broad categories: portraiture; photojournalism; commercial photography; fine art photography.

The category selected for this portfolio of work will normally be different to that chosen in PT3010. If the portfolio is undertaken in the same area of photography as in PT3010, there must be a substantial development of concept and practice beyond that achieved in PT3010.

Learning Objectives:

  1. gain a greater understanding of one area of professional photography;
  2. apply previously acquired knowledge of photographic technique to achieve professional results;
  3. acquire additional items to add to a portfolio of work that will assist in gaining employment in the photographic industry;
  4. explore experimental alternatives wherever possible in the quest for originality and creative excellence;
  5. identify different creative processes, strategies and outcomes leading to the production of a portfolio of work representing the student’s personal artistic direction.

Assessment by folio of photographs as per individual approved contract (80%); journal detailing folio conception and progress (20%). Late submission of assessment items will attract penalties unless an extension has been granted in writing by the lecturer and work submitted by students with an attendance rate of less than 80% may not be eligible for assessment without prior written approval from the lecturer.
