OT2003 is a corequisite subject.
Available to level 2 Occupational Therapy students. Non-occupational therapy students required to consult the subject coordinator prior to start of semester.

The subject provides basic knowledge of aetiology, pathology, signs and symptoms, management and prognosis of disease conditions encountered in Occupational Therapy practice throughout the lifespan.
Major topics will include: congenital, medical, surgical, psychiatric and geriatric conditions; trauma related injuries and degenerative disease processes; medical and surgical interventions are addressed, developments in prevention and community care with emphasis on psychological sequelae for all age related disabilities.
Learning Objectives:
- gain an understanding of the theoretical and clinical aspects of lifespan related medical, surgical and psychiatric disorders appropriate for occupational therapy intervention;
- develop an understanding and knowledge of age related disorders which affect occupational therapy practice;
- be able to identify the difficulties, losses, abilities and compensations that individuals experience with psychological and biological system dysfunctions;
- be able to demonstrate correct usage of appropriate scientific and medical terminology;
- be able to analyse the functional implications of damage or dysfunction to selected systems in the body.
Assessment by examination (50%); on-course assessment (50%).
