Independent Project
Townsville
52 hours flexible delivery. First and second semester.
Applicants should be eligible for registration as a nurse in Queensland or elsewhere; hold a recognised undergraduate degree in nursing or a related discipline or its equivalent as approved by the Head of the School of Nursing Sciences and have 12 months minimum clinical experience. Students must be enrolled in the Master of Advanced Nursing Practice.
The Independent Project should be original and clinically oriented. It provides students with the opportunity to either: (a) independently explore in depth an area of interest within their chosen specialty. Students further develop their research and analytical skills and present them as a clearly formulated argument; or (b) design and implement a project of relevance to their clinical specialty. Students learning is extended and applied to addressing practical issues in nursing. The topic is negotiated with the Course Coordinator.
Learning Objectives:
- further develop their research, critical reflective and analytical skills;
- demonstrate the ability to design a project that addresses an identified clinical problem related to specialist nursing care in the current health context;
- implement a clinically-focussed project;
- apply evidence-based nursing research skills to the evaluation of project outcomes;
- demonstrate the ability to present the project as a clearly formulated report of publishable standard.
On-course assessment (100%) to include written and oral presentation.
