Primary Health Care

10 lectures, 20 tutorials (Townsville and Cairns campuses); 40 hours flexible delivery (Townsville campus). Second semester. Also offered at Mount Isa.
Available to level 1 students enrolled in the BNSc.
In this subject primary health care concepts are explored and the underpinning principles are discussed. Emphasis is placed on the students involvement in the community and students are encouraged to interact on a professional level (facilitative, educational, assessment functions).
Learning Objectives:
- examine the various roles of health care providers and the role of the professional nurse in the context of interdisciplinary health care planning;
- discuss the strategies for implementing primary health care in nursing practice;
- discuss community as a concept and the appropriate use of a team approach to implementing nursing care of the community.
