13 lectures, 39 hours workshops, 26 hours concerts/rehearsals. First semester.

Students undertaking this subject will learn key aspects of professional stage presentation for musicians as part of developing self confidence and assurance as performers. Practical workshops will focus on techniques of stage presence, gesture, movement, characterisation, audience involvement and interaction and stage management. Students will be expected to demonstrate the skills and techniques progressively introduced through the workshop program across the semesters schedule of concerts.
Learning Objectives:
- understand the reciprocal roles of performer and audience;
- analyse the role of non verbal communication in performance;
- develop facility and confidence in public musical performance across a range of genres;
- understand and apply in practice the principles of professional stage management and presentation.
Assessment by critical concert journal (25%); practice workshop tasks (25%); concert performances (25%); stage manager/assistantship (25%).
