Townsville

Prerequisites: CS2001 EE2600 ME2512 ME3515

39 lectures, 13 tutorials, 26 hours practicals. Second semester.

Available to level 4 mechanical engineering and mechatronic students.

Pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, pumps, linear and rotary actuators, analysis of hydraulic systems, hydraulic frequency, control-valves, analysis of servo-systems, sequencing of machine operations, robotics and automated manufacturing systems and the control of these devices with programmable logic controllers.

Review and extension of work on transducers focusing on those devices employed in mechanical systems. Measurement of stress and strain in complex systems, vibration, temperature, heat and flow.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to introduce students to electro-pneumatic and electro-hydraulic systems and their control;
  2. to enable students to design apparatus and procedures and to select the correct transducers for a given measurement requirement.

Assessment by examination (50%-70%); on-course assessment (30%-50%).
