Indigenous People in Australian Journalism

Prerequisites: Completion of BJ or equivalent

13 lectures. First semester.

This subject provides an intellectual context and path of inquiry for students engaged in studies in mass communication related to the practice of public relations and public affairs. It will require analysis of either or both: the representation of Indigenous Australians by Australian mass media; and the participation of Indigenous Australians in the wider mass media and/or specialist indigenous mass media.

Assessment by dissertation (approximately 50%); appraisal of literature reviews and progress papers (approximately 50%).
