Current Debates and Practices in Journalism

Prerequisites: Completion of BJ or equivalent

26 lectures or seminars. First and second semester.

This is designed as a core subject for the Journalism Honours program. It will provide a forum at an advanced level for debate on developments in journalism, whether in terms of world media, national policy, applied professional issues like copyright legislation or revised code of ethics, or regional developments. As such it will enable regular contact with practitioners and leading figures in the field of journalism and mass communication.

Assessment by a short dissertation (approximately 50%); appraisal of seminar contributions (approximately 50%).
