Desktop Publishing and Web Page Design

13 lectures, 20 tutorials. Second semester.

This subject builds on the subediting and layout skills learnt in the previous semester. Students are introduced to the latest trends in publishing technology, including the design and maintenance of web pages. Students will gain practical experience in operating several common desktop publishing programs and producing work to publication standard. By the end of the semester students will be able to plan and produce an issue of a modest publication and reformat the information for a related web page site.

Learning Objectives:

  1. operate at least two common desktop publishing programs;
  2. produce to publishable standards an issue of an in-house magazine or similar;
  3. produce and maintain a web page site.

Assessment involves producing an exercise or real issue of a publication and reformatting the information for a related exercise or real web page.
