Available to Bachelor of Indigenous Studies students.

The practical skills of how to put together a documentary will be taught including research, interviewing, structuring, recording, editing, writing and mixing. Students will be encouraged to be creative in their use of sound, text and music to enhance the information being conveyed. The documentary form and production process will be analysed using a variety of examples.

Learning Objectives:

  1. an understanding of the techniques used to effectively communicate information and ideas in a radio documentary;
  2. how to research and prepare a written proposal for a documentary;
  3. planning and executing a documentary production schedule;
  4. recording and finding relevant audio material;
  5. structuring, scripting and mixing the documentary.

Assessment by one class presentation analysis of a documentary (10%); one written documentary proposal (20%); one on-air promotion for the documentary (10%); attendance and participation (10%); one radio documentary (50%).
