This subject covers the principles of writing for non-Indigenous and Indigenous print media and includes instruction in layout skills. The subject is taught using desktop printing technology.

Learning Objectives:

  1. empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the skills required to publish their own stories;
  2. develop skills in the technology used to produce community newsletters;
  3. empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with the skills required to tackle a mainstream news story;
  4. enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to edit, design, layout and print their own stories;
  5. enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to study further the possibilities of culturally appropriate print media;
  6. strengthen students’ news sense and enable them to monitor a wide range of issues that affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the print media.

Assessment by on-campus assignments (80%); off-campus assignment (20%).
