This subject will provide an introduction to various aspects of Japanese civilisation through selected texts and visual media (in English or subtitled).

Learning Objectives:

  1. provide a basic understanding of the intellectual, ideological, artistic and religious factors which support the cultural framework of Japan.

Assessment by two tutorial presentations (50%); major essay (50%).
