Introduction to Historical Cultural Heritage

13 lectures; 13 tutorials; 13 workshops; 16 hours fieldwork. Second semester.

History, theory and principles of European cultural heritage management in Australia; heritage practice; the role of government and other organisations in heritage preservation.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to introduce students to the principles and practice of European cultural heritage management in Australia;
  2. to train students in the assessment of heritage significance;
  3. to assist students to acquire skills in the interpretation and recording of a European cultural heritage site;
  4. to enable students to write a generic report on a European cultural heritage site.

Assessment by essay (30%), conservation plan (30%); report on field study site (40%).
