Introduction to Environmental Remote Sensing

Introduction to the principles of electromagnetic radiation and the physics of solar energy and earth environment interactions. Basic principles of aerial photographic interpretation, and of image analysis in a raster GIS environment. Applications of remote sensing to the mapping and monitoring of terrestrial and marine environments in North Queensland.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to introduce participants to the use and interpretation of primary sources of geographic information; analogue and digital approaches to image analysis; and image analysis in a raster GIS environment.

Assessment by essay (20%); laboratory work (40%); two-hour examination (40%).
