Introduction to Population Studies

This subject introduces a range of basic demographic concepts, theories and practical applications. The focus is on fertility, mortality and migration trends and their application to population growth.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to provide an overview of current demographic issues;
  2. to develop analytical, oral and written skills;
  3. to provide a conceptual framework to examine population related issues;
  4. to analyse and synthesise information relating to population issues.

Assessment by examination (50%); on-course assessment (30%); field project (20%).
