Physical Geography and the Environment

Basic geographical concepts of the nature of the physical environment. The unifying theme is global environmental change in the atmosphere, biosphere, oceans and on the Earth’s surface.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to gain an understanding of the interdependence and changing character of the different elements of the natural environment;
  2. to gain an understanding of how human affairs interact with the natural environment;
  3. to develop basic geographic skills of map interpretation, data analysis and presentation, aerial photograph analysis and field techniques.

Assessment by examination (50%); on-course assessment (essay, practicals, field work) (50%).
