Research Thesis

Prerequisites: Distinction level in research-based and practice-based communication design subject and permission of Head of College
Inadmissable Subject Combination: GA4012 GA4022

Contact hours as negotiated with the Head of College through the supervisor. Full year.

Available, at the discretion of the Head of College, to all students with a BCommunication Design or equivalent qualification undertaking the honours research degree.

Staff:

Head of College of Music, Visual Arts and Theatre.

Students will write a thesis of at least 10,000 words demonstrating mastery of methodology and research area appropriate to honours level.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop technical and aesthetic aspects of the candidate’s specialisation;
  2. develop critical appraisal and evaluation of current research in the candidate’s specialisation;
  3. become competent in a range of relevant research techniques;
  4. gain further abilities as an independent researcher and designer by following an individual program of research.

Assessment by presentation of thesis of 10,000 words, having a supportive relationship to the exhibition.
