26 lectures, 39 tutorials (Townsville campus); 26 video-conferenced lectures, 26 video-conferenced tutorials, 13 tutorials held in Cairns, eight supplementary tutorials held in Cairns over four weekends (Cairns campus). First semester.

Learning Objectives:
- to take students to a level approaching minimum vocational proficiency (a notional 3- on the ISLPR scale). Students will be able to interact with French speakers with little allowance being made for slower than usual responses or inaccuracies of expression. Skills will include a growing ability to pick different registers, both in spoken and written French.
Assessment by in-class tests and/or end-of-semester examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%). Completion of three-weekly homework assignments is a compulsory requirement of the subject.
