Terrestrial Resource Management

Prerequisites: At least 6 units of level 2 subjects

20 lectures, 6 tutorials, 24 hours field work, 24 hours workshops. First semester.

Principles and concepts in terrestrial resource management including detailed studies of selected methods and problems; management of natural environments including ecological, economic and social aspects; land capability, land degradation, sustainability; protected area management and conservation issues.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop comprehension and appreciation of human-land relationships, especially links with natural resources and ecological processes;
  2. develop conceptual frameworks for analysis and evaluation;
  3. have an awareness and understanding of the major issues in the conservation of biodiversity and the development of ecologically sustainable management.

Assessment by examination (50%); essay (30%); fieldwork or project (20%).
