*NOTE* Postmodernism in Theory and the Arts

Prerequisites: Substantial achievement in 3 levels of EL subjects

26 hours seminars. Full year.

Available to students in the level 4 English Honours program.

An advanced study of philosophical, theoretical and imaginative works which exemplify and problematise Postmodernism.

Learning Objectives:

  1. a thorough grounding in the discursive debates on the nature of Postmodernism;
  2. in-depth study of a range of representative Postmodernist works;
  3. familiarity with the methodologies and critical practices appropriate to the study of Postmodernism;
  4. a comparative sense of the place of Postmodernism in the literature and culture of the twentieth century.

Assessment by seminar, introduction/essay (3,000 words each) (40%); tutorial participation (20%); one three-hour examination (40%).
