A selection in translation of major modern literary works from languages and traditions other than English.
Learning Objectives:
- broaden and intensify the literary-critical skills and understanding attained by students at earlier levels, particularly where essay-writing and extra-literary issues are concerned;
- attain a sound knowledge and understanding of the set texts;
- develop a broad understanding of the text’s importance for English Literature.
Assessment by one 1,500 word essay (15%); one 3,000 word essay (25%); weekly seminar participation (20%); one three-hour examination (40%).
