Modern Communication 2

Available to students enrolled in the public relations strand of the Bachelor of Journalism degree. It is also a core subject in the Bachelor of Arts in Communication. It is, however, available to all interested students. It will permit students to develop their knowledge in communication studies. The subject content includes case studies in the processes of communication; the rise of structuralist theories of communication and a philosophical approach to science, language and linguistics. It has four modules: ‘Tools and Research Methods’, ‘Persuasion and Propaganda’, ‘Thinking and Writing’ and ‘Multimedia’, supported by an electronic Webboard.

Learning Objectives:

  1. acquire deeper and more extensive knowledge of the principles and theories underlying practical work in the fields of communication such as journalism and public relations;
  2. develop expertise and high awareness in reading and analysis of texts in various forms.

Assessment by periodic assignments and exercises for assessment deriving from practicals (60%); one three-hour examination (40%).
