Advanced Environmental Engineering

Available to students enrolled in the Master of Engineering Management program and to other students at the discretion of the Head of School of Engineering.

Municipal and industrial water and waste-water management, surface water quality; management of land resources, land erosion, soil acidification, site rehabilitation, solid waste management; environmental evaluation and economics.

Learning Objectives:

  1. familiarisation with the environmental issues related to the two major media of water and land;
  2. introduce the processes associated with quality changes in various environmental media;
  3. learn techniques of treatment and approaches to abating environmental degradation of land and water;
  4. understand the techniques of evaluating environmental impact and changes in environmental quality;
  5. enable the application of engineering and economic principles of environmental management to major development projects.

Assessment by on-course problem solving exercises and reports; final take-home examination (33%).
