Kinematics and kinetics of particles. Kinematics and kinetics of rigid bodies. Newton’s Second Law. Work-Energy Methods. Friction. Introduction to mechanisms – types, constraints, degrees of freedom. Gearing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to provide students with knowledge of the fundamentals of engineering dynamics;
  2. to provide students with knowledge of the fundamentals of vibrations;
  3. to familiarise students with common mechanisms;
  4. to provide students with techniques for analysing the performance of mechanisms.

Assessment by examination (50%-70%); on-course assessment (30%-50%).
