Learners bring diverse backgrounds and learning styles to tertiary study. The subject deals with theories, concepts and techniques of facilitating learning. Material covered includes adult learning styles, identifying learning outcomes, problem-based learning, experiential learning, self-directed learning and technology-assisted learning. A focus is on the matching of assessment to specific learning styles and desired outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
- to provide knowledge of theories, models, concepts and techniques of the learning of tertiary studies;
- to encourage critical analysis of theories, models and concepts of learning;
- to facilitate and enable participants to apply course material directly to their own teaching practice to enhance learning;
- to encourage innovation in course and subject design and in teaching;
- by taking account of the needs of learners, to model contemporary best practice in teaching in the presentation of the subject.
Assessment by reports (30%); essay (70%).
